Church was good, the usual. But a few funny things. We sang called to serve in Sac mtg. and the organist was pretty slow. I knew right off the bat that the bass pedal was what was slowing her down. I had to kind of laugh in my head, a kind of "when will she figure it out" type of laugh. You see, my mom is the best piano player/organist I know personally. She is also the most natural player, she has instincts and rythmn, and it's just really natural for her. She rarely ever makes mistakes, and if she does they are subconscious "feather brained" mistakes. Having said that, I know that my mom does not use the bass pedals when she plays at all. I'm sure she has at some points but she doesn't use them. She says they are unnessesary and that the songs sound even better without them, more light...I agree. Unless you've got an organ like the one in the conference center, she's right. I knew that if this girl in my ward had just disregard the bass pedals, we'd have sang the song at tempo...it was just kind of a "think of my mother" moment. Sadly the way it dragged and emphasized the bass, it sounded more like a low rider bumping down the street...
In relief society, our practice hymn lady tends to want to school us in music. She proceeds to tell us what a quarter note is and how many beats it gets with a 4/4 time signature, and on and on...and I'm thinking, I'm so bored I learned this in grade school, and those who don't know by now, don't care! I felt like Jim Carey in Dumb and Dumber when the girl is talking his ear off in the bar..."...and do you know what he did?" (she laughs) "No, and I don't CARE!!" They stopped giving the announcements in RS and said to just refer to the agenda we get every week, for a reason...there goes the time saved for the lesson,...thanks practice hymn lady...
Last time at the park, Marcelus all the sudden booked it toward the street. I am 28 weeks preggo, and sitting on the grass. I get my fat butt up and had no choice but to run all out to catch him. I ran about 40 yards I'd say and caught him just before he reached the street, Scary. From then on, I trailed his tail the whole time. I can't wait til we get a backyard in (no time soon I'm afraid) I felt bad for Phoenix but worse for the people on the biggest loser...now I know kind of what it feels like to run when fat. Not fun...
Marce is doing something pretty cute right now...he punches the air in front of him with his index finger out while shouting "GO!" and then he jets off in a full out run. You have to be there to really see how cute it is...
Well, last but not least. Wish me luck tomorrow and say a little prayer. If I don't pass out it will be a real proud moment for me. I was thinking the last few days of how wimpy I feel and scared and nervous and all that, but then I was thinking...I'm going to be tough, whatever man, I'm going to just go in there, hold my belly high, and think to myself, this is nothing...I got this, no big deal...and whatever happens happens. But...I'm still going back between both of those mind sets. Whatever the mind set going in tomorrow, the real results will be what they will be. This is not mind over matter, it's body over matter, so it really doesn't matter. Either way, wish me luck.

I know exactly what you mean. There's nothing I hate more than an organ player or chorister who can't keep the songs moving and, in some cases, speeds through them so fast that the organist isn't really playing the notes...just fudging them.
And I'll cross my fingers that you don't pass out!
Hope today goes well. I'll call you later to find out.
That was funny about the organ lady and the practice hymn lady. I don't really like singing a practice hymn. In my opinion, if they want to introduce new songs, we should just sing a practice hymn for the opening song. It totally cuts into the lesson time and I don't think I've ever seen a practice hymn lady who doesn't stand up there and jabber about something for 5 minutes before we actually get to the song. I don't know, maybe some people like it, but I think it's kind of pointless.
Hey- I think Jonah and Eden taught Marce the 'GO!' thing. We have been doing that forever around here- I'll just say it sometimes- except I say 'Ready, Set, GO!' then they all run through the house. Now Eden and Jonah say it too. I think they were doing that last time we got together. Funny kids!
Good luck! You'll be in my prayers :)
I thought that I put your new address into our address book, but I haven't. I'll call you at 9:00pm your time so I can get it again. I'll probably send it on Wednedsay.
Yea, it's annoying when the organist goes too slow. Real annoying. But I just have to remember that these are all callings and we're not all experts at what we're doing.
(though often I want to point out the words at the top of each hymn that say "lively" or "reverently" etc.)
