2 New Milestones

Marcelus now officially chews gum without swallowing it. Actually, he never has swallowed it before because I never would give it to him to find out! About a week ago I took out some gum to chew. He knows that gum is for "older" people so he doesn't really whine or ask anymore, but he told me this time that he knew what to do and said he would do it. I figured he was old enough to give him a chance, and he did great so now I don't have to worry too much about the gum thing with him. Phoenix on the other hand still can't have it of course.

RELATED STORY: When Marce was really young, he got into my diaper bag and opened and chewed and swallowed all of my gum, this happened twice. It kind of scared me. Glad I don't have to worry about that happening with HIM anyway.

Marcelus has become interested in Basketball over the last few weeks and he has been wanting to watch all the games with me. I was hoping this day would come and figured it would. This is how I got started with basketball, watching the games with my dad back in the 80's and early 90's. Marce is hooked on the score and who has more points at the time. He watches the numbers quite a bit. Eventually he'll realize it's a long game and it's funner to actually watch them make the baskets rather than watch the numbers change. He also loves to find out who is playing and what color each team is wearing. He knows I root for the Suns and sometimes he roots for the other team so that we each have a team we're going for. It's pretty fun to have him there asking way too many questions and learning the game. Marce sometimes makes comments about how fast he is, and because of this he must play basketball (as if all fast people play basketball and this is common knowledge). I really do love this age. He is pretty dang fun right now.

I hope he inherits your killer instinct... he will be unstoppable!
he may be the next Jimmer or Rondo!

Wow yeah that's a lot to ask for. I am hoping he gets Sharrid's height with my agility and energy. In that case I see more of a Tayshawn Prince or a Kevin Durant. I'm just happy he's showing interest. This is the age I think I started to show the interest so he's on track.

I wish I could have played longer. I would have developed my game a lot in HS. I see where I could have definitely improved and expanded my game. I never drove and kicked out, I never penetrated. I always hung around the perimeter and just nailed 3's. I would have liked to draw a foul once in a while or do what Nash does and just run around and confuse the defense under the baseline and kick it out or bounce it in to a center waiting right under the hoop. I just didn't develop my game that far, but I can't say my coaches were great at drawing up plays or offenses. I wish I'd learned to take a charge like Nash too. There's no way I was going to block a lay up! All of these are things I wish I could have played longer for. I hope my kids play play play! ...and I can be a great teacher/mentor/coach for them.
