Tough Times

We all know we're in tough times right now. Unless you had a lot of extra money coming in before, you are feeling the higher gas prices and the higher food prices. You're feeling fortunate to own your home (those that do) and you are feeling fortunate that you have a steady job that isn't going anywhere (again...those that do).
In a way I feel trapped. Trapped in the sense that Sharrid is exploring other job paths right now....but what's the point. We are not about to try and sell our house with the way things are. We are not moving anytime soon. That would be dumb in almost every case scenario. Even if Sharrid did get a better job, we couldn't move. So that's what I meant by trapped. It's kind of bittersweet. It's good cause we don't NEED to move. Our job is fine, it pays the bills. (If gas and food continue to rise it might not ha ha but for now...yeah) I'm just grateful we own it. Well, the bank owns most of it but we can continue to pay towards it, and as long as that happens - it's ours. After all, the housing market (mortgage companies) got us into this mess to begin with.
This economic turmoil has been a good thing in a way. It has motivated me into thinking that no matter how bad things are, you can and SHOULD always work toward your food storage and emergency preparedness. For the first time I actually want to put my extra money towards that cause. It would feel just as good as buying a new book or music or clothes or whatever. I'm going to start by working on water supply, 72 hr. kits, and 3 month supply of food we would eat. We already have the survival food of our 72 hr. kit ready. One of the first things I'm going to do is bottle butter like some of you others have.
I remember my dad telling me that Pres. Hinkley (just before he died) came out and said that the next couple years are going to be tough, temporally. I'm so grateful to have a prophet who knows everything. At least he told us and we kind of knew ahead of time, even if he couldn't do anything about it. While I was in Carlsbad, my grandpa told me a story and I can't remember the details but he was told this story by the San Diego Temple President, who he works with closely (my grandpa is a sealer) and anyway he said that the Brethren knew that the Soviet Union would be changed to Russia at least 18 months before the fact. I wish I could remember the story but the Brethren were talking with someone, a church leader, and they called it Russia or something 18 months before it would change. They were talking about missionary work and stuff. It was a cool story but since I only could tell you the end of it, it sounds pretty lame but seriously. My grandpa just said whatever happens, you can't ever go wrong if you listen to the Brethren, just always listen to the Brethren and do what they say.

I think most people don't really have a clue how bad it could get. Especially people out of the church. The world is going to be in for a rude awakening, economically. I'm sure that's why the prophet has told us to get out of debt for so long. Just remember what grandpa said and follow the prophet the best you can. Getting out of debt for us is something that seems almost too far away. But the key is to keep working at it. That's all we can do.

yeah, get out of debt, that's a big one. But another one is to get your water supply, your emergency survival camping stuff, your 72 hr. kits done, and at least a 3 month supply if not constantly working for your yearly. Things might get better but even so, this whole situation is definately a good wake up call that screams "look how fast things can fall apart!"

That's right! I forgot about the "two year" thing. That really makes sense of why things are going the way they are going right now. Of course, it was only a matter of time. We have been warned for a LONG time.
