We have been called to be in the primary. It was weird to be in there since I have not been in primary since I was actually in primary. (almost 15 years ago) Sharrid has never been in primary period. We are teaching the 4 year olds. The way that I think of "ok...where are these guys at socially and stuff?" is I think of nephew Jonah who is also 4. We met in the primary room first. In our row was 2 rowdy boys who seemed to be best friends and a girl sitting way down on the last seat of the row away from us. The boy named Ryan asked Sharrid why he was brown. Shar was smiling as he said that Heavenly Father made people all different colors and that he made some people brown. Later, Drew stole Ryan's seat (next to Shar) and Ryan told me he didn't want to switch him seats because he didn't want to sit by Sharrid. When I asked him why he said (these are his EXACT words, at age 4) "Well, brown people kinda freak me out" I could barely keep from laughing, as well as the teacher in front of me who was eavesdropping. But, I asked him "How many brown people do you know?" Ryan said "Well, I don't really know any, just....." and then I finished his sentence with ".....people that you see around.....". Hilarious!
We got through the lesson in the second hour and were amazed at how smart these kids are. I had all the kids write their names on the chalkboard as we got to know them. The lesson was on The First Vision. When Shar was talking about Joseph Smith not joining any of the churches, one of the boys said "because he didn't know which one was true". That really surprised me. Later in the lesson, it had us go over the first article of faith. Sammy, the girl knew it by heart already! There was another boy in our class who reminded me of the little guy on the AIG commercials named Tyson. Apparently he didn't want to come to the first hour. Drew and Ryan told us they were excited for after church because they were going to a Superbowl party. It was interesting during singing time the things the chorister would do to quiet the kids. She'd say "everybody put your right hand on your head...now tap your fingers together....now rub your nose... - and I'm thinking, what's the freakin' point of all this, but before I know it the kids are concentrating on all these directions that they become quiet so we can all hear. It was pretty loud and rowdy in there. Sunbeams had 2 different kids meltdown.
