Poetry Post

This will not be so much a poetry "corner" but it will be a Post every week or so. For a short intro or explanation. I started to think poetry could be pretty cool my senior year of high school when I'd flip through my english book and find poems I thought were really good. Well, actually every poem I read and like is not just a poem I "like". I always relate to it in a specific way or it means something to me speciafically. I never like a poem just because "it's nice". I do write poetry now myself as well as music. I've written many of both and will be posting some of my poems and lyrics as poems from time to time. I plan on compiling them into a book someday and publishing it through a little indi. company.

My first Poem Post is one of those poems I found in my english book. I love it, it's brilliant, and it is speaking about a specific person for me, especially the 3rd stanza, and even more so the 3rd line of the 3rd stanza. I couldn't have written it better. It's Sonnet 17 by Pablo Neruda.

I do not love you as if you were salt rose or topaz
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved
in secret between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries within itself the light of hidden flowers.
Thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance
risen from the earth lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride.
So I love you because I know no other way.

Then this where I does not exist, nor you.
So close that your hand on my chest is my hand.
So close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

I think that poem is really beautiful. It's simple but deep at the same time. Love it.
