Hill Family Christmas Letter 2010

Merry Christmas to our friends and family!

The big news for us this past year was my diagnoses of Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, a birth defect resulting in underdeveloped Optic Nerves, which has caused my vision problem. With just the diagnoses we went from being lost in the dark, to now having a lighted path ahead of us. Now we just have to look and listen and navigate to find the answer to getting this fixed. We were pursuing a treatment at one point in time but have diminished the effort for multiple reasons. That was a hard decision for me to make, but with the help of loving and supportive family members, I was able to walk away and move on with my life, knowing that there probably wouldn’t be a safe and proven treatment for some years.

We did just that. We kept going. We moved forward regardless of the circumstances. We are happy to announce that we are expecting another son to join our family on May 2nd. His name will be Amar’e Willard Hill. Amar’e is pronounced Uh-mar (as in Mark)–ee. The E at the end can also have more of an A sound (as in Eggs). Sorry to confuse everybody but I hate when you read a name and have no idea how to say it. We are thrilled to have another little baby come to our home! With the new baby coming we will need to move to a bigger house, so we’ll try and get the new address out this spring.

SHARRID – Sharrid has been blessed to keep his job at the prison throughout this economic situation and has actually been working a lot of overtime recently. He serves as the Sunday School President in our ward. He has been in the Sunday School program most of our marriage! Sharrid received his associates this past year in Corrections/Criminal Justice and is getting ready to start school back up after the New Year.

LEXIE – I am primarily focused on trying to take care of baby and body through this pregnancy, while rearing the other two boys. After writing music for almost a decade, I decided it was time to move to the next level and start composing. With the help of my mom and sister Kira (and my newly acquired used piano!), it is coming along slowly but surely as we are all living in different states! My ultimate goal is to produce/record an album with my family and maybe even publish some of my music.

MARCELUS – Marcelus started Preschool this year and has a great work ethic. He is very responsible and I have to remind myself that he is not in fact older than he is. He loves to count to 100 and writes his name very well. He will be 5 in February just after our 6th wedding anniversary! He is very tall and very thin, so buying him pants is quite a task! He is obsessed with Legos and Star Wars. His favorite food is Yogurt. He loves fighting with light sabers and playing store. He also loves playing any board or card games!

PHOENIX – Phoenix is 2 ½ and is starting to talk a lot more and speak in phrases and sentences. He is still a bit more somber than Marce but has a diva hidden in him. He is our drama queen for sure! He is very tall for his age but unlike Marcelus, he is solid and we think he has sand in his bones! Phoenix loves his big brother and anything Marce loves, plus trains, Legos, cars, and milk!
